Happy Holidays!!!

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some well deserved time off from gymnastics.

If gymnasts have not already turned in their leotards, warm ups, and bags, please do so soon.

If gymnasts are not participating in a winter sport, I encourage them to get involved in a club gymnastics program or to start lifting weights.

As gymnasts start to plan their classes and schedules next year, I strongly encourage signing up for a sports training or weight lifting class in the fall.

One more thing: I need help with is 8th grade orientation. It is February 22, at Ponderosa. In the commons. Beginning at 7:30pm. I need gymnasts to represent gymnastics to the incoming 8th graders and get some girls to sign an interest sheet. Jen and Jeff will be there to help. (I am going to be out of town.)

Last item. I surf the web to find cool gymnastics videos. One of my favorite sites is Gymnastike. They have a series called "Stick of the Week." I really feel for the coach in this segment. It is something that could happen to me, and embarrass the team.

The first week of practice went really well.

Monday is the mandatory parent meeting. It starts at 6:00 and I hope to have it done by 6:30. Come up to the gymnastics gym and I will direct every one to the classroom we are meeting in.

Monday - Thursday we have try-outs. All I want to see is the girls get through a routine on each event without breaking down mentally. We will practice until 6:00.
The girls should NOT plan on leaving early after their try-out. Once we finish one event we will move on to the next event.

Friday is team pictures at 4:00. Once the pictures are done the girls can leave. We will do the team picture first and then individuals. Please be on time.

The floor is DONE!!!!

Nice work on getting the floor done tonight!!!!

I appreciate all of the hard work and all of the girls who came and helped. Andi, Amanda, Hayley, Liz, Brittni, Jordan, Emma, Jessica, Sara, Kristen, Brittany. If I missed anyone I am sorry, but my brain is fuzzy.

We are going to start tomorrow. We will have a summer practice from 6:00 pm to 7:30. (Wednesday, June 9) In order to participate, gymnasts need to turn in the form I handed out tonight. It needs a parent signature to be valid.
No form = No gymnastics.

The floor is DONE!!!!

Set up Tonight 5:00 to 8:00

Thank you to Emma, Sara, Britni and Jordan for helping with set up last night. The FOUR of them did a huge amount of work.

Tonight we are going to flip the floor, put the top layer of boards on, unroll the wrestling mats and tape the mats up.

The more people that come the quicker and easier the process will be.

If we get it all done, we will be able to have summer practice Wednesday.

In order to participate in Summer Practice I need gymnasts to fill out and turn in a Summer Gymnastics form. The form requires a parent signature.

No gymnast will be allowed to participate unless the form is turned in.

The forms were handed out last night and will be handed out tonight as well. I am unable to post them on the blog and there is no link.

Gym set up tonight 6-7:30

It it time to start setting up the gym.

Tonight we are pulling out the boards, making new boards, and re-attaching wayward blocks.

Wear tennis shoes and stuff that can get dirty. Bring your own water to drink. Bring friends too. I will give community service to anyone who helps.

Let's Set the Floor Up!!

Right now I have tentative dates to set the floor up.
I am planning on three days. June 7 , 8, and 9.
June 7: 6 - 7:30 pm
June 8: 5 - 8:00 pm
June 9: 5 - 8:00 pm

Those seniors interested in being a captain, have a great opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills and commitment to the team.

Wear tennis shoes and clothes that can get dirty. NO FLIP FLOPS!!!!

Of course there is an incentive for all gymnasts who are on time and show up for the entire time all three days - you guessed it, free t-shirts.

If this date needs to be changed, I will post on the blog. Immediately with new times.

Athletic Registration Forms

Athletic Registration forms can be found at:
http://www1.dcsdk12.org/secondary/phs/Athletics/forms.html

All five forms need to be filled out and turned in before an athlete can participate in any sport. I recommend getting a physical and these forms turned in as soon as possible.

Fund Raising

Last year we made $400 doing stadium clean up and $675.64 selling concessions. We made approximately $300 selling Local Value Cards. That was enough to pay Jeff and a couple of judges for one meet.
Nice work and thank you for all of the support.
As I learn about the budget for next year, I am sure there will be more fund raising.
The athletic fee will increase to $150, but the extra $50 will not go to gymnastics, it will go into a general athletic fund.
Chances are most of our buses to away meets will be one way as well.
I have not been informed of any assistant coach cuts, and I hope there will not be any. We will need to fund raise for Jeff. Selling pizzas has been suggested. I am open to anything, just make it all as easy on me as possible.
I will be posting the league schedule soon.
