Gym Notes 11-2-2009

Thank you to all gymnasts who turned in their uniforms and Local Value Cards. A special thank you to the gymnasts who sold all of their cards.
Gymnasts can turn in their uniforms to me at Ponderosa anytime. Tomorrow, I will start filling out fine slips.

Tear down went well today. Moving our mats to a new location was a little difficult, but I think we will know what to expect next year.
The wrestlers were really helpful with tearing down the floor.

The schedule for this week will be as follows.

Tuesday - Practice at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics from 7:15 pm - 8:30
Wednesday - Practice at Chalkbox from 2:45 - 4:00. I am excusing state gymnasts only. DC and CV will be dismissed at 2:15. PHS, CHS and LHS will be dismissed at 2:20.
Thursday - Practice at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics from 7:45 pm - 9:00.

Friday is the state meet. The girls decided only two stops are necessary. The bus will leave Ponderosa at 8:15 am and Chaparral at 8:30.
9:15 - 10:30 Brunch at the strip mall off of I-25 and Arapahoe Road. The girls can get food.
10:30 Leave the strip mall at and head up to Thornton High School. I hope to arrive at 11:15 Arrive at Thornton. We will then go through registration at the high school.
12:00 Enter gym. Open gym and stretching time.
1:22 Warm up floor.
1:46 Warm up vault.
Go change.
2:05 Be lined up behind the bleachers and ready for march in.
2:20 March in
2:30 Compete floor, and later on vault.
After the second rotation is finished competing, we will warm up beam and bars.

More information and directions to Thornton are available on the CHSAA website http://www.chsaa.org/sports/gymnastics/gymnastics.asp.
CHSAA recommends spectators buy their tickets online ahead of time. According to CHSAA it will save time from standing in line, but it costs $0.97 more.

Please, if there are any questions, please contact me.

Gym Notes 11-1-2009

We had a good meet on Saturday and it looks like we qualified as the number 10 seed to state. CHSAA will make everything official on Monday.

The state team is Alli, Gioia, Brittany, Andie, Emma, Alexis, Jessica L, Hayley, Liz, Kristen and Kaylee.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the team. I really appreciate all of the help the competitors got from Jessica, Brittany, Tasie, Emma, Kaitlynne, Sara and Alyssa. Their help made our state qualifying effort much easier.

Monday is a mandatory attendance day.
All gymnasts need to either turn in their local value cards or money on Monday. No one ever won the leotard I had up for grabs.
Girls who are not on the state team need to turn in their warm ups, leotards and bags.
The warm ups and leotards need to be washed and dry.
Gymnasts also need to remember their secret sister gifts.

On Monday, gymnasts need to come to practice in clothes that can get dirty. They also need to wear tennis shoes. We will tear down the entire gym. The sooner the girls get everything torn down, the sooner we can vote, exchange secret sister gifts and then girls can leave.

Tuesday we will have practice at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics from 7:15 pm - 8:30. All gymnasts can come to practice, as long as they have turned in their liability form to Castle Rock.

Wednesday, provided I get approval, we will practice at Chalkbox from 2:45 - 4:00. I will dismiss the state team for this practice from their school between 2:15 (DC & CV) and 2:30 (PHS, CHS, LHS). If I do not get approval, we will have practice at Castle Rock from 7:45 pm to 9:00.

Thursday, we have two options, either after school, 3:30 - 4:30 at Castle Rock or 7:45 pm t0 9 pm at Castle Rock. If we do the early practice at Castle Rock, we will not be able to use the floor.
Everyone on the team can come to this practice.

Friday is the state meet.
I would like as many non-competing team members to come to the meet as possible. It is beneficial for young gymnasts to see the state meet. Also, as it has been in years past, we will need to flash our own scores. I will also need help with mat moving and holding, as well as video taping.
While I do not have all of the logistics worked out, here is my tentative agenda.

8:00 am the bus will leave Ponderosa. I need to work out whether or not we need the bus to stop at every high school, or just do the regular stops at PHS and CHS. After I talk to the girls on Monday, I will know what stops the bus will be doing.

Then, for Gioia's sake, we will go out to breakfast/lunch at the strip mall at I-25 and Arapahoe Road. Gymnasts need to plan on buying their own meals during this time. I will find out what my meal allowance is spend it on bagels and cream cheese for the girls to eat at the meet.

In my experience, the concession stand at the state meet offers typical high school concession fare. I would recommend that the girls bring healthy, digestible snacks along to help them through the day.

We will leave from lunch at 10:30 and head up to Thornton.
The gym will open at noon. We should be there around 11:15.
Warm ups start at 1:22.

The meet starts at 2:20, competition will start at 2:30. We will be in the first rotation, I do not know what event yet.
The state meet format is warm up two events, compete two events. It is a long meet. My guess as to when the meet will be over is 9:30. But, really, predicting the finish time of a gymnastics meet is difficult.

Saturday is finals. I think, it is the top 15 gymnasts on each event that qualify to finals.
If anyone qualifies to finals we will leave Parker around 2:30. There will be no bus on Saturday.
Warm ups for finals start at 4:00.
Finals on Saturday start at 6:00

Directions to Thornton High School:
Take I-25 north to the Thornton Parkway exit. Turn east (right) to Washington St. Turn right again and the school is on the right. Park wherever you can, around the west side of the school as well. I prefer to turn right on Eppinger, and then right into the parking lot.

General admission is $6. An all session pass is $10. It includes 5A on Friday, 4A and finals on Saturday. Gymnasts who do not ride the bus up for the meet will need to pay to get in to the meet, the student fee is $5.00. A student pass for all sessions is $8.00.

Congratulations to all gymnasts. I have really enjoyed this season. The state meet is an amazing experience and I am glad the girls get to experience it.

If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me.

Secret Sister

I think we should save secret sister for Monday because not everyone will be able to make practice today. If you all feel strongly otherwise, contact everyone and let them know.

L

It is on

We will have practice today from 4:00 - 5:30. I will be there at 3:30 if anyone wants to watch video from league.

Friday Practice?

WOW two fall breaks in two weeks. Amazing. No one could have predicted this.

At this time, I do not know if we can have practice today.
If we can, I will post here and send out text messages to all of the girls I have numbers for in my phone.
If we can have practice, I would like to keep it quick and light. I also realize that everyone may not be able to make it, so if you can great, if not, it is okay. The number one priority is to be safe.
The plan, if practices are permitted, we will have practice today from 4:00 - 5:30.

As for secret sister, at this point, it is probably best to do it Monday after tear down.

Remember the bus will leave Ponderosa 8:00 am tomorrow, we will do a pick up at Chaparral at 8:15 am.
Thee meet starts at 12:00. There will be an admission fee, but I have not been notified as to how much.
I have the bus leaving Green Mountain at 5:00.

School tomorrow is canceled = no practice

Since school tomorrow is canceled and all after and before school activities are canceled, there will be no gymnastics practice tomorrow, Thursday, October 29.

If we have school on Friday, practice will be at the regular time 4:00 - 6:00. We will do secret sister on Friday as well.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Check out the Gymnastics Minute I posted earlier - it is really good.

Fantastic Gymnastics Minute

Every gymnast that experiences fear should watch this and do what is recommended.

A Halloween Regional

It is confirmed, the meet is on Saturday, October 31.

Here is the website http://sc.jeffco.k12.co.us/education/components/scrapbook/default.php?sectionid=294

The warm ups are at 10:00, the meet will start at 12:00.

As for the bus on Saturday, I will not be picking up at each high school.
Right now, I think the bus will leave Ponderosa at 8:00 am, we will then do a pick up at Chaparral at 8:15. That will give us an hour to drive to Green Mountain, we should get there by 9:15. We will probably be able to get into the gym somewhere between 9:15 and 9:30.

I need as many non-competing girls as possible to come to Regionals. We will need to flash our own scores. At regionals, there are four judges on each event. That means four flashers on every event, the more help the better.

A couple of questions for the girls....
1. Should we do secret sister on Thursday or Saturday?
2. Do we want to go to either Chalkbox or Castle Rock on Friday if I can get gym time?
3. Do you all want to wear the all black leos on Saturday since it is Halloween?

Text me or e-mail me with ideas.

Remember Monday, Nov 2 is mandatory attendance. The wrestlers are coming to help with tear down. They will move most of the floor, we will move most of the mats and equipment. We will vote for team awards once we are done moving equipment.
Gymnasts not going to state will need to turn in all gear that was checked out to them.
All Local Value Cards or money will be due on Monday.
Some gymnasts ordered warm ups, they have been in for 4 weeks. I need payment for the warm ups from the girls that ordered them.

Hopefully, we will get some banquet info out soon.

8:00 Post

I have no official confirmation that the meet today is postponed. I have tried contacting my athletic director, I have checked the CHSAA website, Green Mountain website and Douglas County website. None of which have given me more information.
At this time, plan on the re-schedule happening.
I will post again at 9:00, whether I have more information or not.

Regionals 10-28-2009

It is not official, but since both Douglas County Schools are closed and Jefferson County Schools are closed, I think the meet today will be re-scheduled for Saturday morning.

Once I know for certain that the meet today is re-scheduled, I will post here. Hopefully that will be by 8:00.

If the meet is re-scheduled, we will have practice Thursday and Friday. I do not know when we will finish secret sister. I need to talk to BC, Alli and Gioia about that.

Since the girls will have some free time, they should brain storm people they can sell their Local Value cards to.

Some you tube videos to watch as well...

Fall break is here!!! I hope everyone enjoys their time off from school.
SELL, SELL, SELL!!!
Please sell Local Value cards. Any debt we have from this year will carry over to next year. Selling the Local Value Cards will help to eliminate our debt from this season. There is still a leotard on the line.

Next week our workouts are going to be out of the building. All gymnasts are welcome to come to practice. They will need to arrange rides. Many of the older gymnasts are willing to help with rides, just ask them.

Monday practice will be from 2:15 - 3:30 at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics. If gymnasts have not turned in a release of liability form, they need to do that before they can participate. The form can be found on the Castle Rock School of Gymnastics website.

Tuesday practice will be at Chalkbox Gymnastics. Practice will be from 1:45 - 3:00 on Tuesday. Gymnasts need to have turned in the release of liability form for Chalkbox to work out there.

I will then do a pick up at Chaparral at 3:15.

Warm ups will start around 4:00 and the meet will begin at 6:00. I do not know when it will be over.

We will not have practice on either Thursday or Friday.

We will begin secret sister on Monday, October 26. We drew for secret sister on Thursday, October 15. The girls need to be prepared and remember to bring their secret sister present on Monday, October 26.

Tuesday Line Ups - Tentative

Overall, today was a great practice, I am really happy with what I saw. The girls appear to be fired up.

A reminder - if a gymnast does not go to school for at least half of the school day, she is not eligible to compete and is not permitted to practice. This is school district policy.

The line-ups for tomorrow are tentative, with sickness and injuries, I am hoping for the best, but if girls are unable to compete, I will move others into the line up.

Gym Notes for the week of Oct 5

There have been a lot of girls out sick. I hope everyone is getting healthy, rests up, and enjoys their homecoming. Attendance rules apply to the meet on Tuesday.

Thank you to the girls who stayed and helped put the gym back together. I appreciate the help and we were done by 3:45. The PE dance classes also appreciate it as well.

Next week workout details...
Monday - The team will tumble and then do routines on the events they are competing.
Tuesday - Home meet with Niwot and Elizabeth. Warm ups at 4:00. March in will be at 5:50. It is Senior Night. Everyone who is eligible to compete will.
In order to be eligible for the meet Oct 6, the requirement is: in the gym two times since September 29.
Wednesday - Trick day. The girls should come to practice. These are some of the most productive days we have in the gym. Unfortunately, there is a group of girls who continually miss this practice. Trick days are just as important as the practices before a meet.
Thursday - Trick day.
Friday - at a gym with a pit? I need to ask the girls about this. I will post more information once the girls and I decide on a course of action.

October 6 will be the last meet for the junior varsity and a few varsity girls. These girls should continue to come to practice and work on skills. I will outline the expectation for these gymnasts on Wednesday next week.

If gymnasts are going to be out of town during Fall Break. I would appreciate an e-mail from parents so I can start planning the line up for league.

I need Local Value Cards either sold or returned to me. The next gymnast who sells all of her cards and brings the money to me, will win a leotard.

There will be a mandatory attendance for all gymnasts on Monday, November 2.
Please do not schedule any doctors appointments on this day. All gymnasts are expected to help with tear down. It goes quickly if everyone shows up. We also vote for team awards. Gymnasts who are not at tear down are not eligible to receive an award at the banquet.

Please check out my post on September 27 for more details on upcoming dates.

Pep assembly, tour jetes and Strugs

Tomorrow is the pep assembly. The Ghostbusters routine is really fun. I cannot wait to see the girls preform it.
The girls should arrive at Ponderosa anywhere between 12:45 and 1:45. Earlier if they want to warm up on the mats. We perform at 2:11. Come to my classroom if you arrive early between 12:45 and 1:00, otherwise head to the gym.
We are going to wear our warm up leo with black shorts.

This is a great link to learning tour jetes and Strugs.

Gym Notes 9-27-2009

The Overland Invitational this weekend was good. We accomplished some things we have been working on. I also saw some areas that we need to continue to focus on. (Like bars.) I enjoyed seeing what other schools are doing and the skills being thrown.

Please remember, if a gymnast is not coming to practice, I need to be notified by either the gymnast or her parents. Last week, there were a couple of gymnasts who did not tell me they were not coming to practice or the meet.

We are more than half way through the season. There are only two meets left for most of the JV and beginners. It is my intention to get all gymnasts in to each of the last two meets as long as they meet attendance and workout requirements and are not injured.

This week is homecoming for most of the girls on the team. I know most of the Chaparral girls will not be at the meet on Wednesday. If there is anyone else who thinks they will not be at the meet, I need to know as soon as possible.

Monday, we will be tumbling. The varsity will be working on adding some release skills on bars. The JV girls will be working on floor routines and working on more basic skills. We will also choreograph our homecoming routine.
Tuesday, we will be doing routines. Then we will work on our homecoming routine.
Wednesday, we have a meet against Rock Canyon and Heritage. Warm ups for the meet will start at 4:00 and the meet will start at 6:00. Some of the varsity will be trying new skills at this meet. If I can talk the girls into it, I would like to give a sneak peak of our homecoming routine after the meet, before awards.
Thursday will be trick day. Thursday practices are NOT optional. All gymnasts should come to practices on Thursdays. At the end of practice on Thursday, we will flip the floor. We will also practice our homecoming routine.
Friday is the Homecoming pep assembly at Ponderosa. I encourage all gymnasts to participate in the assembly and get recognition. We will performing to Ghost Busters. Parents of gymnasts at schools other than Ponderosa, need to excuse their gymnasts from school to come over to Ponderosa. (And provide transportation.)
Gymnasts should be at Ponderosa by 12:45.
I will have leotards for the girls to wear. They should bring black shorts.
After the pep assembly, we will put our gym back together. Gymnasts will be out of the gym by 4:00.

Senior night, and the final meet for most gymnasts will be October 6. It will be a quadrangular meet, with Niwot, Elizabeth and Pine Creek all competing. Warm ups for the meet will start at 4:00, march in will be 5:45, and the meet will start at 6:00.

Gymnasts who are done competiting after the 6th should continue to come to practice. After the 6th, non-varsity gymnasts who continue to come to practice will be able to work on new skills. I will also take them to regionals, if they attend a majority of the practices.

Our only away regular season meet will be at Overland on October 14. I am still working on the logistics of bus pick up. It looks like I will excuse Douglas County and Castle View from school at 2:45 so they can catch the bus at Pondersa at 3:30. Then we will do a pick up at Chaparral at 3:45. The meet will start at 6:00. The meet is 6 varsity and 3 JV. I will compete the 9 best gymnasts on each event.

League is Wednesday, October 21 over fall break. Please let me know if your gymnast will NOT be available for League.

We are seeded for regionals by averaging our top three team scores throughout the season. We will not know what day, or where regionals are until October 19.
Depending on where we are assigned for regionals, the girls will get out of school somewhere between 10:30 and 12:30. I will take a bus to each of the high schools and pick the girls up. We will go to eat at the strip mall at Arapahoe and I-125. The girls will exchange secret sister gifts. Then we will head to our meet.

Gym Notes 9-25-2009

We have had some great workouts Thursday and Friday. New skills have been learned. Congratulations to Lyssa for getting her kip on bars, to Jessica L for doing a front flyaway off bars, to Liz for doing both her full and front layout on floor, to Alli for doing her Higgins into her dismount on bars, to Andie for standing up her double flyaway on bars and to Haley for doing her front layout on floor.

Tomorrow is the Overland Invitational, sickness and injury have changed the line-up. If you are planing on coming to the meet, whether you are competing or not, bring your leotard and warm-ups just in case. Here is the most current line-up... Floor - Gioia, Alexis, Liz, Haley, Andie and Alli. Vault - Haley, Gioia, Alexis, Liz, Andie, Alli. Beam - Haley, Jessica L, Alli, Gioia, Liz, Andie. Bars - Alexis, Liz, Gioia, Haley, Andie, Alli.

The bus will leave Ponderosa at 7:00 am and Chaparral at 7:15.

If gymnasts are not coming to the meet, they should sell their Local Value cards.

Enjoy the weekend.

I have arranged for gym time at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics on Friday. The practice is optional. Practice will go from 2:00 - 3:00.

Gym Notes 9-20-2009

Last week was good. It was definitely crazy. I wish I had more control over our judging situation, but I do not.
I feel like the girls are progressing towards where they need to be by the end of the season. The beginners are really coming along and picking up new skills. I love to see their enthusiasm as they learn new tricks and leaps. The varsity is progressing as well. We still have many areas to improve in, and we will continue to change routines and try new skills and combinations for a few more meets. I am very happy with the effort and focus the varsity girls bring into the gym everyday.

Sell your Local Value Cards!!!!

Thank you to all of the girls and parents who helped with stadium clean up on Thursday. It went really well. I know being out on a school night is difficult, but the money we made goes towards judges so I can run varsity and full JV at our home meets.

The week ahead...
Monday - After stretching and conditioning, we will tumble and then do full tumble floor routines, come ready to go! The beginners will also be vaulting. We will do other events too, I just want everyone mentally and physically ready to tumble and do full floor routines on Monday.
Jen will review judges sheets with the girls.

Tuesday - The varsity will be vaulting and doing other events, JV will be working the event/s that they are competing and then moving on to other events.

Wednesday - We will be hosting Cherry Creek and Rock Canyon. Girls should arrive at Ponderosa by 4:00, the meet will start at 6:00. I am trying to get everyone to compete in the meet. That means some girls will only be doing one event.
Wednesday is Parent Teacher Conferences night at PHS. Parking could be difficult.

Thursday - Trick day!!! These are my favorite days. Jen will also review judges sheet with the girls from Wednesday. If we have video, the girls will be able to watch videos of their routines.

Friday - I am trying to get gym / pit time. Once, I know when and where, I will post the information on the blog. It will be optional.

This Saturday is the Overland Invitational. It is a BIG meet and will indicate where we rank among some to the best teams in the state.
The bus will leave Ponderosa at 7:00 am, please be on time, because the bus will leave at 7:00. We will then do another stop at Chaparral at 7:15. (Be on TIME!!!!)

The gym at Overland will open at 8:00. It will be open gym from 8 -9, and I highly recommend that the girls get on all of the pieces of equipment at this time and warm up. Timed warm ups will be either 6 or 8 minutes for the entire line up.

Saturday will be warm up two events, compete two events.
Our rotation Saturday will be floor (first team on floor), vault, beam, bars.

Saturday will be a long meet. I do not think we will get out of there until 5:00. Gymnasts competing are expected to stay until the end of the meet, this includes awards. The only exception is gymnasts who have Homecoming for their high school. Saturday is a varsity only meet, but all gymnasts are welcome to come and help support the team.

Gym Notes9-15-2009

The girls have been working very hard this week and improving their routines based on the feedback from the judges sheets. I am excited to see the girls compete again on Friday.

1. The Ponderosa Championships originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 16 has been officially moved to Friday, September 18. It is still parent appreciation night. Parents should try to arrive around 5:45.
All girls who are eligible to compete will compete in this meet.

2. Sell Local Value Cards and return the money to me!!!! If we make enough extra money, we can purchase new equipment. Jen needs to buy one card, the first girls to ask her, will be the girls she buys from.

3. Thursday, September 15 the team has stadium clean up at Burt.com Stadium. Gymnasts should arrive in the middle of the fourth quarter. I think that would be around 9:00 - 9:-15. The girls should bring brooms, work gloves and friends to help. All gymnasts are expected to be part of this team bonding experience. T-shirts are involved. The team will make $400 for their clean up efforts which will go towards judges fees.

If there are any comments or concerns please contact me.

Tentative Meet Date Change

Due to a shortage of judges, the meet originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 16 is going to be moved to Friday, September 18.
It will still be at Ponderosa, it will still be Parents Night. We will do Parent Night presentations at 5:50 and start the meet at 6:00 as planned.
All gymnasts are going to compete at this meet, as long as they meet attendance requirements.
I apologize for the change, I do not have control over the judging issues.

Direction correction to Chalk Box

Start: Depart 7007 Bayou Gulch Rd, Parker, CO 80134-5459 on CR-28 [E Bayou Gulch Rd] (West) 0.2
1: Turn RIGHT (North) onto SR-83 [S Parker Rd] 4.0
2: Turn LEFT (West) onto Hess Rd Alli caught this, we believe it should be RIGHT (east onto Hess Road.)
An easier solution might be to take Parker Road to Hill Top and turn left (East) Then continue from #5 below. Hilltop is after the Village Inn, where the Vitamin Cottage is.
3: Turn LEFT to stay on Hess Rd 0.6
4: Road name changes to Local road(s) < 0.1
5: Keep STRAIGHT onto CR-71 [E Hilltop Rd] 3.9
6: Bear LEFT (East) onto CR-24 [E Singing Hills Rd] 1.5
7: Road name changes to CR-166 [Singing Hills Rd] 1.7
8: Turn RIGHT (South) onto Cricket Circle 0.1
End: Arrive 40580 Cricket Cir, Elizabeth, CO 80107
If anyone has a better suggestion or know the correction, please post in the comments section.

Gym Notes 9-9-2009

We survived our first meet. It was one of the fastest meets I have ever participated in, competition was completed by 7:15. I am impressed with what I saw today. Our team score today was higher than any team score we had last season. (167.4 vs 167.3)
While I believe today was successful, we have a long way to go. There is a lot of work ahead of us. On vault, we need to start flipping and twisting more. On bars, we need to get rid of stops (.5 each time, the same as a fall!) We also need to start working release moves, requirements and bonus skills. On beam, we need more difficulty, and less wobbles. On floor, we need to get into shape, then add twists and bonus.
Based on what I saw today, I have a line up in mind for Cherry Creek. This does not indicate that gymnasts not on this list are junior varsity, and it does not indicate that gymnasts on this list will stay varsity. Varsity is fluid based on many things, including scores, scoring potential, attendance, promptness, and work habits.
Vault - Kaylee, Emma, Alli, Liz, Andie, Kristen. Some of these spots are dependent on the gymnast safely competing a tsuk.
Bars - Kristen , Andie, Alli, Haley, Gioia, Liz.
Beam - Alli, Kristen, Andie, Gioia, Liz, Haley.
Floor - Alli, Andie, Kristen, Gioia, Kaylee, Liz.
Tomorrow we go against TJ. I spent a huge chunk of my day finding judges for this meet. We have three. That is enough. Gymnasts not competing are expected to be in the gym by 6:00 to help out and to support their team mates.
Thanks you everyone for their support. I especially have to give a shout out to the parents that helped with the concessions Friday night, Tricia, Jennifer, Paula, Steve and Ann. THANK YOU!!! Also thanks to all of the girls who helped, Alli, Brittany, Lyssa, Jordan, Jessica, and Kaylee. And to Jen for coming and helping as well, what a great assistant.
Tomorrow Local Value money is due. If gymnasts have not sold all of their cards, they need to keep selling. Any and all money collected so far from sales of the cards needs to be turned in tomorrow.

Optional Friday Practice at Chalk Box 9-11-2009

Friday we will have an optional practice at Chalk Box Gymnastics in Elizabeth. The purpose of this workout is to vault into a pit. All gymnasts are welcome to come and vault. Everyone must arrange their own ride to and from the gym and turn in a Release of Liability signed by their parents to Chalk Box.
Practice will be from 3:30 - 4:30.
The website for Chalk Box is http://chalkboxgym.com/default.aspx
If your gymnast did not pick up a Release of Liability form, there are forms available on the website under Birthday Parties.

Gym Notes 9-8-2009

Wow, the first meet is tomorrow, how crazy is that? The routines we do these first couple weeks will evolve and become more difficult as the season progresses.

1. The girls should be selling Local Value Cards. The money is due Thursday. I need to buy 6 cards, so someone should ask me.

2. Some girls would like to have their own warm ups. I am placing the order tomorrow. Check with your daughter to see if she has signed up to get her own.

3. Warm up leos are here. I will not give a gymnast her leo unless she has paid for it. $40 to PHS.

4. Wednesday's meet. All gymnasts competing Wednesday are doing all around. Here is the list, Alli, Andie, Liz, Kristen, Haley, Gioia, Alexis, Emma, Kaylee, Jessica L, Jessica B, Brittany C.

5. Thursday's meet. Gymnasts might not be competing all around, it depends on what events they are ready for. Gymnasts competing Thursday: Tasie, Brittni, Julia, Jordan, Jessica L, Courtney, Devan, Kaitlynne, Maddie, Alyssa, Emma, Jessica B, Brittany C.

6. Gymnasts are expected to attend home meets whether they are competing or not. If a gymnast is not participating in the meet, she does not need to be at the gym until 6:00.

7. If a gymnast's name does appear on the list, there are couple of things that could be, one, I made a mistake, two the gymnast does not have 9 practices since August 17.

8. Saturday's meet at Cherry Creek. I am taking my parents to the airport that day, so Jeff will be riding the bus. The bus will leave both Ponderosa and Chaparral on time. Do not be late, in fact, be early. The bus will leave Ponderosa at 7:00 am, it will leave Chaparral at 7:15 am. The meet starts at 10:00 am. The meet format is warm up two events, compete two events. Beam and vault are our first two events, floor and bars are the last two. I have an idea of who will be competing on Saturday, but it is not official. This is the tentative list Alli, Andie, Liz, Kristen, Haley, Gioia, Alexis, Emma, Kaylee, Jessica L. I can only commpete 6 girls on each event, so not everyone on this list will compete on Saturday. It is a list of the girls I am considering. Based on how they look and perform on Wednesday, I will make my final decision on the line up by Thursday morning.

9. T-shirts are in, they are $12. I have a limited amount and a limited number of sizes. It is first come, first served.

10. There is a blog that is posting gymnastics scores. The address is
http://www.cohsgymnastics.blogspot.com/
Michelle Tharp of Fort Collins posted an all around score of 39.075. Huge score!!!

Uniform Check Out Today

1. Today we started checking out uniforms. If we are short anything, I will order what is needed.
Gymnasts are responsible for what is checked out to them, if anything is lost, there will be a fine so the program can replace the item. Please see the parent meeting agenda for the costs of various items.
2. If gymnasts want to have their own warm ups (those are the black ones, jacket and / or pants) I can order them. Jackets are $30, pants are $30. The deadline to order will be Thursday, September 3. The jackets can have names embroidered on them. Checks should be made payable to Ponderosa High School.
3. Warm up leotards should be in tomorrow. The girls will only receive their leotard if they have paid for it. Leotards are $40, make checks out to Ponderosa. The girls can wear these leotards to practice, we will also compete in them often.
4. I still need 5 volunteers for stadium concessions Friday. If you are available and can help out I would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know, either by e-mail or cell phone.
5. Friday practice will be canceled.

No Gym Friday, August 28

No gym Friday. The girls have had a big week and deserve a three day weekend.

Tryouts went smoothly. I am impressed with how far our beginners have come along in two short weeks. The competitive girls look great as well, they are showing polish and confidence. Now we need to focus on event requirements and bonus skills.

I still need parent volunteers to work concessions at the football game on Friday, September 4 at 6:00. Please send me an e-mail or call my cell phone and let me know if you are available.

On Monday, Greg from Local Value will be dropping off Local Value cards for the girls to sell as a fund raiser.

Warm up leotards should be here by Tuesday at the latest. Leotards are $40.

Wednesday will be team pictures, I would like to start the picture taking at 4:00, so come ready. Picture forms were handed out at the parent meeting . We will work out afterwards, so bring workout gear.

We will start checking out uniforms on Monday or Tuesday. In order to get uniforms, gymnasts must have their Information Sheet turned in to me.

Thank you to everyone who came to the parent meeting. I really appreciate your support. If there are any questions, comments or concerns, please call, email or text me.

Gym Notes 8-20-2009

More information...
1. Try-outs for vault will be moved to next week. Once we have a vault runway and can practice vault a few times, I will then let the girls know when we will do vault try-outs.

2. Local Value information. Local Value now sells cards worth $60, for $48. As a program we get $24 from each card sold. The Local Value website has a link http://www.localvaluefundraising.com/store/pc/search.asp which lists all of the vendors that currently accept Local Value. The gymnastics program needs to fund raise. This is an easy way to do it. I plan on demonstrating Local Value at the parent meeting on Monday, August 24.

3. As many of you are aware, there are many girls who are receiving rides from older team members to gymnastics practice every day. Please consider the gas these drivers use and encourage your daughters to help diffuse the cost.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please get in touch with me. All of my contact information is on the calendars the girls have.

Gym Notes 8-19-2009

The gymnastics season is off to a fantastic start. I am really excited. There is a lot of talent in the gym and there are quite a few girls new to the sport who are learning new skills and routines very quickly. It is a good mix.

1. The parent meeting is at 6:00 on Monday, August 24. It is important that all gymnasts have a parent (or guardian) attend the meeting. If this is not possible please call or e-mail me so we can discuss team policies.

2. Fund raising. I try to make fund raising as easy as possible. I have scheduled two fund raising events. One is selling concessions at the Friday, September 4th football game. It will be at Burt.com Stadium. I need 8 parents who can sell concessions on the visitor side. Volunteers need to arrive at 6:00 for a brief training, and concessions usually go until the middle of the 4th quarter. The other fund raiser I have planned is stadium clean up on Thursday, September 17, at Burt.com Stadium. Clean up usually takes an hour, and is done by the girls. It starts at the end of the football game, and we are paid $400. Also, check out the Local Value website http://localvaluefundraising.com/store/pc/ponderosa.asp Local Value returns half of each purchase to the selected program. So, if $100 of Local Value credits are bought, $50 goes to the selected program.

3. On Monday, we set team rules and goals. I think the girls did a great job with the process. I will be sharing the rules and goals at the parent meeting on Monday, August 24.

4. Choreography on floor and beam has started. I have former Ponderosa gymnasts donating their time to help with the process. I have to say a HUGE thank you to Caylee, Angela, Lenise and CheyAnne for their willingness to help out the program. I will make sure that the gymnasts who have joined the program this week get floor music and a routine.

5. Try-outs are not optional. Every gymnast will have to try-out on every event. Everyone will have a routine or skills to show for try-outs. In order for this to happen, the girls need to come to every practice on time and stay for the entire practice. I know that some girls have other activities going on, and I understand that things come up, but if they miss practice, they miss learning routines and skills and preparing for the season.

6. Team pictures have been re-scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 at 4:00. We will practice after pictures.

7. The athletic office is working on clearing athletes. I do not have a list of gymnasts who are cleared to workout and who are not. If I find out a gymnast is not cleared, she will no longer be permitted to work out. If you (or your daughter) might be in this situation, please get the forms turned in to Ponderosa tomorrow. The forms are available at .

I just want to say again how great things are going. The girls work so hard in the gym and everyone appears to be learning something. I realize the girls are sore and have bumps and bruises, but as they work through it all, I know they are learning they can push their limits and rise to even greater heights.

Please if there are any questions or comments or concerns, get in touch with me. All of my contact information is on the calendars I gave the girls on Monday.

School has Started!!! Gym notes 8-11-2009

Wow! School has started and I feel swamped. I will try to be more consistent about posting weekly. I have had a wonderful time working with each of the girls and I am very excited about the season.
1. The big news is that tomorrow, Wednesday, we will be taking pictures for the Fall Sports Program. I will give everyone either a leo or warm up to wear. Make sure that gymnasts bring a leotard to work out in.
2. Team pictures will be Thursday, September 3. They will start at 4:00. After pictures we will have practice.
3. PLEASE turn in your athletic forms ASAP. No athletic forms means no practice. Once the athletic office give me the list, if a gymnast's name is not on it, I cannot and I will not allow her to workout.
4. The gymnastics parent meeting is scheduled for August 24 from 6:00- 6:45. Please meet in the gymnastics gym and we will move into the team room.
5. I am trying to get the girls to pick floor music. We have lots of music that the program has bought or has been donated in the past for the girls to pick from. I also have demo music from Floor Express. I like Floor Express (and other companies as well) because the music is cut beautifully into counts of 8, and has good beginnings and endings, and meets time requirements. If a gymnast wants music from Floor Express, it needs to be purchased by her. It is possible to cut music for floor. Music needs to be between 1:10 and 1:27 and on a CD. I do not cut music.
Floor music needs to be picked by the end of this week.
6. If there are any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me. I have no computer in my classroom as of today, so I will check e-mail when I can. Text messages work great on my phone and I do check my voice mail for both school and my cell phone at the end of each school day around 3:00.

Gym Camp Starts Tonight 6 -8 pm

From 5 - 6 we will be doing some set up. If you can come and help, that would be great.

In order to participate in camp you need to have all of your athletic paperwork turned in including your current physical signed by a doctor. I hope to have a list by Thursday of everyone who has turned in paperwork.

I am looking forward to doing some gymnastics tonight.

Thank you all for the help

I just want to thank everyone who came and helped out with set up. Those of you who did all three days, I really appreciate your dedication and willingness to stick with it.
Unfortunately, we did not finish. If anyone is interested in coming in early to help on Monday before camp, I will make it count towards time given to set up. Right now, I think if we start at 5:00, we should be able to get the beams out and set up, and all of the mats out and mopped as well. If the situation changes I will post on Monday.

Camp next week will be Monday 6 pm to 8 pm and Thursday 3 pm to 5 pm. Please remember camp is optional. Also, if you did not do the full 240 minutes of set up, the fee for camp in $20. The money will go to the program, as a fund raiser.

Last Night of Gym Set Up 6-8 pm

We are almost done setting up the gym. Hopefully, we will finish tonight.
Make sure you wear tennis shoes.
I am going to Jazzercise before set up, so I will be in the gym by 5:50.
Thanks for all of the hard work so far, I really appreciate it.

Gym Set Up Tonight 6 -8 pm

Gym set up continues tonight from 6 to 8 pm. Remember to wear tennis shoes. We will be moving 100 sheets of plywood, I have work gloves, but you can bring your own. Wear clothes that can get dirty.
The more people that come, the faster and easier it is. Feel free to bring friends who need community service hours.
There also might be some mat moving and we might get the pits out of the track shed.
I bought some plywood last night. I will need some help getting it into the building.
Last night went great. I appreciate all of the help. It will make today go much faster.

Gym Basics Tonight 6 -7 and Information

I am back from Las Vegas. We will have basics tonight. I am going to Jazzercise first, so I will be there around 5:50 to open the gym up.

Also, Chalkbox Gymnastics in Elizabeth is having open gyms if you are looking for more gym time.
It is on Tuesdays the cost is $12, it is from 12:30 - 3.

I know when gym set up will be: it is slightly different this year.
In order to come to gym camps for free, you need to do 240 minutes of gym set up, otherwise you will need to pay $20. For every half hour you do, $5 is taken off of your camp fee. If you do all 300 minutes, you will get a t-shirt or credit for one varsity meet, which ever you select. You can also get community service hours, just bring me a form to sign. If you have friends that need community service, bring them along.
July 27 6 pm - 7 pm. We will be rolling mats, moving the weights and cleaning the closet. Then the custodial crew will come in and scrub the floors.
July 28 6 pm to 8 pm. We will be setting up the floor.
July 29 6 pm to 8 pm. We will finish setting up the floor and try to get the other events up as well.

My letter is coming.

Tumbling Basics Tonight June 29, 2009 6 -7 pm

Tumbling basics is on for tonight. Next week I will be in Las Vegas, Jen said she can take the class. So unless otherwise noted, there will be tumbling basics on July 5 as well, with Jen. I probably will not post unless basics is canceled.
I would like to recognize the senior class for this year. Right now there are four of them and they are all working hard. They have been really motivated about attending basics and they have all started planning team activities for the season. Their excitement is contagious and makes the time I spend in the gym on Mondays enjoyable and rewarding.

There will be gymnastics basics on Monday, June 22.
I had a great time on the 8th with the girls that showed up.  It was enjoyable to catch up and see everyone.

Summer workouts

Tonight is our first optional basics workout event of the new season!
The gym is not set up, so we will be on the wrestling mats.
We will not do any skills that involve pounding of the joints.
We might do leaps and jumps that pound the ankles, however.
I have the latest Floor Express CD so we will start listening to that for those of you who are looking for new floor music and routines this season.
If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call me, or post on this site.  I will check it again around 4:00 today.
I also need input on two important things.
1.  What time should our practice times be this season 3:45 - 5:45  or 4:00 -6:00? Remember school does not end until 3:00 this year.
2.  Does having set up July 22 and 23 in the evening work for most people?
I hope to have answers by tonight so I can put the finishing touches on my letter.
