Gym Notes 11-1-2009

We had a good meet on Saturday and it looks like we qualified as the number 10 seed to state. CHSAA will make everything official on Monday.

The state team is Alli, Gioia, Brittany, Andie, Emma, Alexis, Jessica L, Hayley, Liz, Kristen and Kaylee.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the team. I really appreciate all of the help the competitors got from Jessica, Brittany, Tasie, Emma, Kaitlynne, Sara and Alyssa. Their help made our state qualifying effort much easier.

Monday is a mandatory attendance day.
All gymnasts need to either turn in their local value cards or money on Monday. No one ever won the leotard I had up for grabs.
Girls who are not on the state team need to turn in their warm ups, leotards and bags.
The warm ups and leotards need to be washed and dry.
Gymnasts also need to remember their secret sister gifts.

On Monday, gymnasts need to come to practice in clothes that can get dirty. They also need to wear tennis shoes. We will tear down the entire gym. The sooner the girls get everything torn down, the sooner we can vote, exchange secret sister gifts and then girls can leave.

Tuesday we will have practice at Castle Rock School of Gymnastics from 7:15 pm - 8:30. All gymnasts can come to practice, as long as they have turned in their liability form to Castle Rock.

Wednesday, provided I get approval, we will practice at Chalkbox from 2:45 - 4:00. I will dismiss the state team for this practice from their school between 2:15 (DC & CV) and 2:30 (PHS, CHS, LHS). If I do not get approval, we will have practice at Castle Rock from 7:45 pm to 9:00.

Thursday, we have two options, either after school, 3:30 - 4:30 at Castle Rock or 7:45 pm t0 9 pm at Castle Rock. If we do the early practice at Castle Rock, we will not be able to use the floor.
Everyone on the team can come to this practice.

Friday is the state meet.
I would like as many non-competing team members to come to the meet as possible. It is beneficial for young gymnasts to see the state meet. Also, as it has been in years past, we will need to flash our own scores. I will also need help with mat moving and holding, as well as video taping.
While I do not have all of the logistics worked out, here is my tentative agenda.

8:00 am the bus will leave Ponderosa. I need to work out whether or not we need the bus to stop at every high school, or just do the regular stops at PHS and CHS. After I talk to the girls on Monday, I will know what stops the bus will be doing.

Then, for Gioia's sake, we will go out to breakfast/lunch at the strip mall at I-25 and Arapahoe Road. Gymnasts need to plan on buying their own meals during this time. I will find out what my meal allowance is spend it on bagels and cream cheese for the girls to eat at the meet.

In my experience, the concession stand at the state meet offers typical high school concession fare. I would recommend that the girls bring healthy, digestible snacks along to help them through the day.

We will leave from lunch at 10:30 and head up to Thornton.
The gym will open at noon. We should be there around 11:15.
Warm ups start at 1:22.

The meet starts at 2:20, competition will start at 2:30. We will be in the first rotation, I do not know what event yet.
The state meet format is warm up two events, compete two events. It is a long meet. My guess as to when the meet will be over is 9:30. But, really, predicting the finish time of a gymnastics meet is difficult.

Saturday is finals. I think, it is the top 15 gymnasts on each event that qualify to finals.
If anyone qualifies to finals we will leave Parker around 2:30. There will be no bus on Saturday.
Warm ups for finals start at 4:00.
Finals on Saturday start at 6:00

Directions to Thornton High School:
Take I-25 north to the Thornton Parkway exit. Turn east (right) to Washington St. Turn right again and the school is on the right. Park wherever you can, around the west side of the school as well. I prefer to turn right on Eppinger, and then right into the parking lot.

General admission is $6. An all session pass is $10. It includes 5A on Friday, 4A and finals on Saturday. Gymnasts who do not ride the bus up for the meet will need to pay to get in to the meet, the student fee is $5.00. A student pass for all sessions is $8.00.

Congratulations to all gymnasts. I have really enjoyed this season. The state meet is an amazing experience and I am glad the girls get to experience it.
